Obituary

Wanda Faye Lance, 81, of Centre Hall passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Thursday, June 16, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Born on April 4, 1935 in Owensboro, KY, she was a daughter of the late James E. Payne and Martine Petrie Payne.

Wanda celebrated over 60 years of marriage with her devoted husband and best friend, William (Bill) L. Lance, Sr., who survives at home. She cherished every moment with Bill and their greatest joy was spending time with family. Wanda had a passion for cooking, a love of Madame Alexander Dolls, and an appreciation of Westmoreland Glassware.

As a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Wanda was on the Administrative Board and served as a Lay Leader. One of her most cherished activities within the church was serving as a Lay Speaker, having had the opportunity to deliver sermons in 10 different local churches. She was also a co-treasurer with her husband and an active member of the Ladies Group. As a display of Wanda's faith and devotion, her home was always beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Retiring in 1997 as Postmaster of the Centre Hall Post Office, Wanda was widely known for her impeccable hair style, manner of dress, and her organizational skills. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania Branch of the National League of Postmasters.

Those left to honor her memory, in addition to her husband: a daughter, Judy L. Lance of Laurel, MD; two sons, William (Bill) L. Lance, Jr. (Nancy) of Angola, NY, and James (Jim) Lance (Lori) of Glen Ridge, NJ; five grandchildren, Michelle Renee Zangerle (Adam), Stephanie Faye Ahern (Patrick), Madison Kay Lance, Sydney James Lance, and Mikala Faye Goddard; and two great-granddaughters, Claire Faye Zangerle and Abagale Evelyn Zangerle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Faye Lance Goddard; one sister, Mary Ruth Holland, and three brothers, Douglas, Harold, and Robert Payne.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Centre Hall, PA.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church, 127 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, PA. The Reverend Judith Hulslander will be officiating. Burial will be at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, West Church Street, Centre Hall, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 292, Centre Hall, PA 16828.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the private caregivers, Grane Hospice, In Home Services of Central PA, and Hearthside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for treating Wanda with such heartwarming care, love, respect and dignity during her extended illness.
