William "Bill" Leonard Long, 70, of Centre Hall, beloved husband and dad, went home to be with his Lord, on Friday, January 11, 2008, Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born April 8, 1937, in Bellefonte, PA, a son of the late John Leonard and Susan Benner Long.
On August 27, 1960, he married Patricia M. Baker who survives at home at Centre Hall.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter M. Lori Campbell of Centre Hall; three sons, Martin L. Long, of South Carolina, Stephen A. Long of North Carolina, and L. Scott Long of Florida; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bill was a good Christian, and a member of Calvary Bible Church, where he enjoyed working with young people, through the Awana Club and coaching softball for the church. His real passion in life was to help children come to know Christ.
He retired from Penn State in March of 1993, as a supervisor at the warehouse. He had worked many other jobs at the University during his thirty-seven years of service.
He was an avid P. S. U. Football fan. Bill especially enjoyed reading about the Civil War and he enjoyed writing several notebooks on the subject.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. on Monday, January 14, 2008, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA; and from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at Calvary Bible Church 600 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a. m. at the church, with Pastor Richard Gilbaugh officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Meyer Cemetery in Benner Township.
