William "Bill" Robert Hellman, 71, of Pleasant Gap, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA.
He was born October 30, 1946 in East Orange, NJ, the son of the late S. Raymond Hellman and Grace Southward Hellman Sherwood.
On June 3, 1978, he married June Lorraine Drasher who survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer L. Shook and her husband Brian of State College, his sister, Barbra A. Gerstner of Denville, NJ, his nephew Jeffrey Gerstner and his wife Diane of Andover, NJ and their two sons, and his niece Pamela Gerstner of Denville, NJ. Also surviving are his nine sisters and brothers - in- law, their spouses, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in law Conrad Gerstner. Conrad was like a father, big brother, mentor and best friend all in one to Bill.
Bill was a graduate of Clifford J. Scott High School. He continued his education with the two year General Motors Auto Repair School and several courses of Continued Management at the University of Delaware.
He was employed as a Service and Parts Director at several auto dealerships over the years earning many awards. A few are; Chevrolet Service Supremacy which was the highest award for customer service; President of Only the Best Club for at least three years, this for outstanding performance in Chevrolet Retail Management Service; Pontiac Service Excellence; Toyota outstanding performance and achieving overall excellence; Toyota Service and Parts excellence society; and Cadillac Motor Car Division Honors which was the complete customer satisfaction systems service professional association.
In 2012 Bill became a baptized witness of Jehovah. He was a zealous proclaimer of God's Kingdom and loved to share the Bible truths with others. His favorite scriptures were in the book of Matthew, especially the Sermon on the Mount.
In addition to his love of God, was his love of family and friends. Bill was an avid car enthusiast. He enjoyed going on long rides looking for wildlife, deer, turkey and the occasional bear. Also he enjoyed gardening and tending to the birds with several feeders and even a heated bird bath for the winter weather.
A memorial service will be held at State College Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 101 Villandry Blvd. State College, PA; June 23, 2018 at 4:00 p. m. Burial will be in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ, at the convenience of the family.
