Zachary Shane Settle, 24, of Bellefonte, died on Saturday, July 19, 2008, near Julian.
Born on May 5, 1984 in Lubbock, TX, he is the son of Shane S. Settle and Darla (Smith) Miller, both of Bellefonte.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a step-mother, Diane Settle of Bellefonte and his step-father, Danny Miller, of Bellefonte; two sisters, Lindsey Erin Settle and Samantha Barner, both of Bellefonte; one brother, Levi Settle of Bellefonte; paternal grandparents, James and Karen Settle; and maternal grandparents, Ken and Larue Smith all of Bellefonte.
He was a 2002 graduate of the Bellefonte Area High School where he excelled in football. He also had completed the Heavy Equipment Operators Course at the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology in Pleasant Gap.
Zachary was currently serving in the National Guard Unit in Bellefonte as a tank commander. He had served a tour of duty in Iraq in 2005 with the U. S. Army, having served in the Airborne Division as a Paratrooper; and was preparing to return to Iraq for another tour.
He was employed by Northern Pipeline as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Bellefonte. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson's and Choppers, and also loved the outdoors. Zachary was a very outgoing, loyal person who had a heart of gold and a smile for everyone.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at St. John United Church of Christ, 145 W. Linn St. Bellefonte, with the Reverend Anne Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery, Zion, PA
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Army National Guard Unit of Bellefonte, 1081 Zion Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
